if i remember correctly, joe kennedy wanted to register as a republican, but they wouldnt let him because he was irish.

the democrats did.

is that a low blow?

perhaps if it were read at the DNC

The only senator who remained a hard-core racist until his last days in office was Jesse Helms, and he had switched parties  very early in his career.

Some of the Dixiecrats who remained in the Senate up into the 80s never recanted either (James Eastland, IIRC).

I didn't know Wallace and Faubus endorsed Jesse Jackson.  That's pretty cool.

I don't see anything wrong in her statement.  If that was her fathers justification for joining the republican party, than it is what it is.  I'm sure you have your own reason for joining your party.  I have my reason for joining the Reform Party.  Everyone has a reason. 

I think you are looking too deep into a rather innocent comment.
