If Schumer wins the 2010 NY Gubernatorial race and then governs effectively for his term and wins a landslide in 2014, could he then run for POTUS in 2016?

President Schumer, anyone?

The most dangerous place in America is between Chuck Schumer and a camera.

The most dangerous place in America is between (insert any ambitious politician's name) and a camera.
Corrected for fairness.

Could Schumer beat an acting Governor Patterson and AG Cuomo in a political ménage à trois to the death?

very possible.  he had interest in 2006 but decided not to pursue it.

of course, he would have had to resign the Senate and take on obvious frontrunner Spitzer back then, so maybe this is more plausible.

we'll see what kind of network and following Paterson can build and see if he can be viable in 2010.  (I'm talking like Spitzer has already resigned - I find it hard to see him rehabilitating his image)

an interesting dynamic would be Bloomberg as an independent, but I don't think that will happen.

I like Schumer a lot but he'd be 66 when he takes office. Thats starting to get up there in years.

If McCain wins two terms, he'll be fourteen years younger than the departing President.

I do agree that 66 is too old for a non-war vet candidate.

I suppose that of all the prospective future Governors I'd rather have Suozzi.

he's the only real Albany outsider - which is precisely why I don't think he will have a chance.  (or it may be exactly why he might - who knows)

I'd love to see Schumer run for President, but I think he's better off in the Senate, where he would be a great Majority Leader someday.

Another thing, I suspect come 2008, Schumer is going to have a lot of power in the Senate.  It'll be pretty tempting for him to stay

Moreover, since his Senate seat is up in 2010, he would have to risk his safe Senate seat for a run in what would likely be an ugly, ugly primary against, at minimum, Paterson and "evil eyes" Cuomo...

A Suozzi vs. Cuomo vs. Paterson affair would probably guarantee Paterson (if he's a decent guv) the nomination.

Why wouldn't Bloomberg run for this office? This scandal seems like manna from heaven.

This is the perfect opportunity for Bloomberg.  I want Schumer to stay in the Senate.

Schumer for Governor - Very reasonable/Likely

Schumer for President - Not likely but how I'd love to face off against that guy.

I would love to see my County Executive Steve Levy as Governor but he wouldn't stand a chance; too fiscally conservative for New York Democrats statewide.

Suozzi has a much better chance at becoming Governor than Levy does, though I would personally rather see Suozzi run for Congress and drop kick King.

Oh, definitely. Suozzi is much more in line with the mainstream NY voter. I'm not a really big fan of his but as I said I'd rather have him out of all the names being thrown around for Governor, although I'll see what Patterson can do.

Also, being aggressively Lou Dobbsish on immigration will not play well in the city, no matter how many more votes he might get in Suffolk.
