...what would you say are Joe Lieberman's odds to be SecDef?

I'd say he has a pretty good shot. Agree?

It'd be a better move than Secretary of State or U-N Ambassador.  But I don't see it happening.  I think McCain will tap a General or a different pol.

I am pretty confident Mac will put one, maybe even two, Democrats in his cabinet.  But none in top positions.  I look for him to make Lugar the Secretary of State.

If McCain is smart, he won't tap Joementum for anything, but rather keep him in the state and block any potential further-left Senator from taking over his empty seat.  If for some reason Joe gets voted out, then he can tap him for a position within the Administration.

Connecticut has a GOP governor.

What's CT's laws on replacing a senator? Rell is Governor and would presumably put a Republican in Lieberman's old seat, unless CT has a similar law to AZ.

That would really be Lieberman's way of saying "fcuk you" to the party that dumped him.

One interesting factor is that the veto-proof Democratic legislature can't really force a bill down Rell's throat requiring that Lieberman's seat be filled by someone in the same party (like Massachusetts did in 2004), since Lieberman technically isn't a Democrat.

This may not make some Democrats or left leaning individual happy, but I think Gates should stay on if McCain wins.  He's been a much better Defense Secretary than Rumsfeld.  He's allowed the flag officers to run the show.  He hasn't meddled with troop deployments.

Actually, it would be reasonable to think that there might not be much of a shake-up at all.

I never really considered Gates staying on but I suppose it's possible.

I agree that Robert Gates should be kept as Secretary of Defense.  He's been exceptional in the short year and a half he's been on the job.  He has been far better than Ronald Dumsfeld (to quote James Carville).

I would love to see Lieberman as part of a McCain administration, in some major capacity.

Perhaps shift Gates to State and put Lieberman in Defense.

He's still a registered Democrat.
