I'm going to Yosemite on a school trip next week. Last time I went to Yosemite, I read The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and thought it fit perfectly with the surroundings and the mood of a trip to Yosemite (I don't know why, either), so I'm bringing it again, to read on the bus. And now the Presidential Trivia thread caused me to read about Hjalmar Schacht on Wikipedia, which put me in a Third Reichish mood, so I can't wait to read it again.

FF.

The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich is probably as comprehensive an account of the Third Reich as we are likely to see. There are admittedly times when he can't help portraying everything from a distinct anglo-American slant, but that's to be expected, and he still manages to stay objective as far as the historical accounts are concerned. A must-read in my opinion.
