Since finding out about Pennacchio's comments, I guess I'll be switching my support to this guy. I assume Levinson and Allen decided against running.

Why do they bother having these "races" in Jersey? It's pretty clearly illegal for the GOP to win anything there.

Not quite hitting gold... it's more like one of those $1 scratch tickets that pays you $2. A little better off than you were before, and not embarrassed for wasting a day.

Apparently this guy was ousted from Goya foods by his own family over "concerns about his professionalism" and now runs a nightclub. Sounds like a real winner!

Take off points for that if you will, but considering that Sen. Lautenberg has been living in New York City for years now...

This guy is clearly a dud. Whatever Lautenberg's doing, he's been a senator forever and represents the state well so he can get away with it.

I don't know if he's a dud, because...well, no one knows anything about him yet, save that he probably hasn't published any manifestos or mounted a Libertarian campaign for Governor.  (Which is a good start.)

Republicans like him because he can self-finance, because he's young, and because he's hispanic.  I'm very interested to see where he stands on the issues, and whether or not he's actually ready for prime time.

I've never been very secretive of the fact that I just plain don't like Frank Lautenberg—he has little to offer the state these days but cranky partisanship.  Never mind the fact that he'll be pushing into his 90s in the Senate if NJ re-elects him.

PoliticsNJ says Unanue owns a home in Alpine...tax search shows only his parents do. It's possible he doesnt even own a home in NJ.

Actually, he has been a senator forever and the rest I guess is just your opinion. How has he served us badly?

You have misread my post.  I'm not trying to say that Lautenberg hasn't been a senator for a long time, because arguing any differently would be ridiculous.  What I'm saying is that Democrats in New Jersey generally get an easier ride.  This is common knowledge.

Conan lives in an alternate universe where New Jersey Democrats can do no wrong and live by a strict and honest moral code.  Reasoning with him is useless.

While I would love to see someone new in DC representating our state, Lautenberg really hasn't been as bad as I thought he has. He has been a leader in the Senate on nuclear powerplant safety, and full funding for Amtrak, as well as being a big leader in the Senate for rail security. He also has been a vocal advocate for NJ against the proposed FAA plane to fly more planes over NJ from Philly. Like I said before I would love a fresh face like Rob Andrews in the Senate seat, but I do give Lautenberg some credit for being a good Senator. The problem I think is that he is not very high profile and doesn't make the news a lot which contributes to people thinking he isnt good.

Actually no. It's just that allegations of corruption against Lautenberg have always been implausible. You don't know what you're talking about. I don't care for most of the legislature, of which the democratic leadership has blocked real ethics reform. But you can make up whatever revisionist history you want for me.

Have some dignity, man. Senator Lautenberg is going to be reelected by probably the widest margin he's had ever.

So, in other words, he might win by 10 points for the first time ever.

Meanwhile, former Democratic State Chairman Tom Byrne is polling the state about a possible primary challenge to Frankie.

Tom Byrne is irrelevant and any former political reporter would know he'd have no chance.
