They have until 7AM tomorrow to turn themselves in, or they will be arrested.

It's about time that action against this joke was taken. You can bet WalterMitty will be sad, since this moron is basically the only prominent person in American politics to propose a fast food tax (and was laughed at mercilessly for it.)

It's about time. He's actually done some good in re-development in downtown, but these continued violations of the law and scandals can't go unnoticed.

And this is why I rooted for his challenger Freman Hendrix in 2005.

Just when we'd got scandals down to a Republican fine art and they took a well deserved hit for hit in 2006, every once in a while some Democrat just can't resist getting themselves into hot-water

I don't know [shakes head]

Well the only way he could be innocent of the perjury charge is if all of the text messages are faked. All 14,000 of them.

I suppose it could all be a big conspiracy to hold the black man down.

Now I do agree that lying about an affair shouldn't be sufficient to force a politican out of office.

It does remain to be seen though if he used his personal mayoral security to help cover up the scandal. That and also potentially ordering several police officers to be fired for threatening to reveal the scandal (a jury in civil court already awarded ruled in their favor on this).

If he did attempt to cover it up and used taxpayer dollars and threatened others along the way, that's definitely something he should be forced from office for.

why the hell are we spending time...and most importantly money...investigating the mayor's text messages to his sweetie?

to be blunt, detroit is a dump.  how many blacks are out of work there?  how many blacks have died there this year from street violence?  how many blacks are in poverty there?

why dont we use some of those resourses to help them out?

i couldnt care less who he is sleeping with, and i doubt most detroit citizens do.

I agree wholeheartedly on all that you said.

But given the city's fiscal crisis and the problems you mentioned, the fact that he may have used a lot of taxpayer money to cover up the scandal is definitely of relevance.

But he's apologized for having the affair - he's all but plead guilty.

And this guy cost the city $8 million and largely screwed up the police force to cover up the whole deal. That's not helping. Not to mention he's a f**king terrible mayor who isn't improving things for Detroit at all and Detroit would be a lot better off with him gone.

Oh, I absolutely agree. But it's also worth investigating since it is more than just whether or not he had an affair. If that was all it was, I would certainly agree that it's between him and his wife.

At least he's not as bad as Coleman Young. I will never until the day I die forgive him for telling black voters to stay home in 1990, essentially costing Jim Blanchard reelection and giving us the scourge of John Engler for 12 years.....

Why was the police force trying to uncover his affair in the first place?

All of this sounds more sinned against than sinning, in a way.

On the other hand, one of the city council members is Martha Reeves, the Motown singer. That's kind of awesome.

Perjury is perjury - I could care less who he slept with, but I care that he lied to a jury and I care that that lie cost Detroiters $8 million.
