This is something I have wanted to bring up, maybe just for a good laugh.

I registered on April 5th, 2004, and my first post was a vote for Strom Thurmond for President in 1948. Yes, I was extreme.

I had what I now call “Idiotic Idealism” Syndrome. I waved the cross and shook the finger of morality at everyone. I said of Pornography, “It leads to worse things.” By worse things I meant, “General immorality.” I also said if a woman gets raped, it’s her own fault! I said that we needed bedroom police in the thread “Personal issue: Sex and Government”. I never went as far as the long lost PD to say that abortion doctors and those who had abortions needed to be killed (yes, while PD was here I was a lurker. I lurked for about a year before I posted) I, PBrunsel, must now say that my ideas back in April were wrong, and I apologize for them.

I also was a partisan hack (some would say I still am now, but not as much as I was back in April). Michael Z said,

Reaganfan, PBrunsel and Jmfcst are all equally partisan.

I am ashamed of my once “my party, right or wrong” attitude. I have become less partisan (I would hope) when it comes to choosing what is right for the country. I am still supporting President Bush in 2004, but I will now admit that I disagree with the reconstruction in Iraq, his amnesty to illegal immigrants, and his tax cut and still spend economic ideas. I can disagree with my president and still be Patriotic, anyone can.

In short, I can say I think I have changed from where I was in April 2004, and I would hope others can say that. Now I know htmldon thinks I am a KKK member, so I have to wrap this up because I am late for a White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan meeting. Just kidding. Smiley

Once again  I would like to thank all those who helped transform me from a partisan Religious Right fanatic to a Common Sense Conservative. These people include Ilikeverin, Nym90, Texasgurl, Ben, John F. Kennedy, NewFederalist, Statesrights, and many others.

We all learn and we all contribute in our unique ways. One point that MarkDel made is that one should debate on the information that you know best. I agree, and I would add that you should watch the debates of those where you can learn more.

You have a great gift for historical facts. Pay attention to the details of current events. You can do well to point out the similarities and differences between today's events and appropriate historical parallels. As you learn to apply the lessons of the past to current situations you will continue to find a far more well reasoned position to rely on in your future debates.

I do not remember you back when you were a right-wing religous fanatic. However, since I joined the Atlas in June, I have come to respect you very much, so I guess you have changed since your arrival.

"Every man is in some way my superior.  From that, I learn of him."

I can't remember who said that, but I personally found it to be a very insightful thing to say.

I wasn't around in April, but I must say that I've been impressed with the relatively nonpartisan nature of posts from the current PBrunsel, so however he changed, it must have been a good thing. Wink

You've mellowed out since you joined, PBrunsel. I've become even more moderate since I joined, as I begin to side with conservatives on more issues (but not enough to vote for Bush Wink)

Nothing wrong with voting for Thurmond in 48 or Wallace in 68. I would have voted for both.

The reason I posted this is to get a good laugh out of how extreme I once was. I'm still embarassed by some stuff I said. Smiley

You were not extreme in the least. Sad to see you kowtowed to Dems on your views.

PBrunsel,

Even if your views may have been "extreme" in the past you were always a respected poster in my view, whose knowledge of American political history is impeccable.

Generally, I think people become more moderate as they get older. For instance I was extremely left-wing in my mid-teens, but I've definitely mellowed since. So it's only natural, I think.

Oh yeah, and congratulations Govenor. Smiley

Most people become conservative when they raise a family.

If every election was held on April 15th, I think there'd be a lot more conservatives in Congress.

You have definitely improved a lot. Smiley

And congrats to your victory.

States,

Not everyone becomes more conservative when rasing a family and there would definitely be something wrong about voting for racial inequality.

I'd also thank this forum for making me realize I have too many morals to be a pinko pot-smoking commie!
