Liberty and Democracy Party
The current incumbent party in the United States, the Liberty and Democracy Party has emerged as the bastion of individualism, over the "americanism" of their opposition. Referred to as the Liberty Democrats, this party utilizes the panther as their political logo.
Their platform bills them as : supportive of repealing the Thirty-third Amendment to the Articles of Confederation that banned abortion, opposed to so-called "gun regulation", strongly assertive of a balanced budget and the seperation of church and state, and assertive of the need for tax cuts for the wealthy and the supply-side.
The LDP remains entirely opposed to efforts to instil neocratic (socialistic) ideas in health care: particularly universal care as supported by the congressional minority. They oppose stringent security measures advocated by the opposition party in light of the May 15, 2002 terrorist attacks on the Tower of Freedom in the U.S. capital of Susquehanna by the Aztec's Spear terror organization based out of the rogue state of Mexico.
Free Whig Party
Currently the minority party in the Continental Congress, the Free Whigs have built themselves as the pillar of americanism...that is, the need for the state to take a smart interest in the affairs of the American people. The party uses the Liberty Bell as their political logo.
The Free Whig platform is entirely supportive of the Thirty-third Amendment, regulation of firearms with an understanding of respect for the Fourteenth Amendment's protection of ownership rights for "militias", tax cuts for the lower or middle-classes, as well as the necessity for school prayer. They also fully support universal health care.
Meanwhile, in light of the Tower of Freedom bombing with a radiological weapon by the Aztec's Spear organization, the Free Whigs advocate immediate military action to be taken in Mexico, as well as the establishment of a Department of Homeland Affairs to secure America from within.
Liberty Democrats or Free Whigs? The choice is yours.

Whigs for me.
Can anyone guess what the point of divergence was for this microcosmic look at an alternate timeline?

This is killing me. I either support the party that is for separation of church and state but against Universal Health Care and for tax cuts for the wealthy or the party that advocates gun regulation and universal health care but wants prayer in school. Probably the Free Whigs, but it's tough. Every party that forms basically is given a sheet and fills it out. They are either pro-choice or pro-life, they are either pro-universal halth care or against it, they are either for big government or not. The particular combination of answers by these parties makes it painful to pick one.

Well, that was more or less the point.
Although, in reality the positions aren't all that off-kilter.
One party favors more governmental expansion (healthcare and lower/middle-class tax cuts), homeland security, etc.; while the other doesn't.
Basically just swung the left/right scale to more of a north-left/south-right scale.

Well, to be more accurate, they only amend them at the constitutional convention (which was the orginial objective that the Continental Congress sanctioned).
In any event, good job! Kudos!

It seem that the Liberty and Democracy party is basically a libertarian party while the Free Whigs are basically a populist party. I'll take the Whigs since I agree with them more on economic issues. I really like neither though, I'd be looking for a third party if there was a viable one.

Ugh. Yukk. Beurk.
Both sound horrible, both scored -1. this means the sole basis for me is the party symbols. And because the panther seems slightly evil, i'll go for the Liberty Bell-Free Whigs.

I feel like that all the time with the Dems and Reps...
And I'd happily be a Free Whig!

I would have to abstain on this vote given the lack of information thus far...as my overriding priority would have to be my assessment of the specific magnitude and nature of the Mexican threat.
Minus the Mexican consideration, I'd have to reveal my libertarian leaning and say that the LDs are the lesser of two evils.
