He's resigning in June, so Edwards could be elected probably in August at the very earliest. This seems kind of ridiculous to me; it's just a waste of money to hold an election to give her a few months of seniority. Couldn't he have waited another year to get on the private sector/lobbyist gravy train?

This is actually kind of a Wynn-winn situation.  He gets a great job, and Donna Edwards will have seniority over the members who are elected in November.  Perhaps it is selfish on his part, but the seniority advantage is somewhat meaningful.  That being said, I don't think it is worth the $2 million for the special election.

Obviously not, that's why he's resigning. It has nothing to do with Donna Edwards.
