The thread about comic book collecting got me wondering if there was anyone here who collects antiques?  Of course, by now -- some comic books probably qualify as "antique".  Some of the ca. 1930's comics are worth a lot of ducats.

But how about it?  Coins? Militaria? Furniture? Railroadiana? Breweriana? Stamps and Postal History? Firearms? Glassware?

What are you all into?  Tell us about your collection and your favorite pieces.

I still have a massive collection of metal Thomas the Tank Engine trains from when I was 5. They'd be worth quite a bit of money, considering you cannot buy them anymore.

I also have a grand collection of AFL Record books, the ones in most mint condition are my  AFL Grand Final record books dating from the 1999 Grand Final between North Melbourne and Carlton to the 2007 Grand Final between Geelong and Port Adelaide.

I used to collect political memorabilia, mainly buttons.  Now, I only collect those that I find especially interesting when I find them—such as my "Conte" and "Fenwick" buttons.

That reminds me I started a collection of political buttons myself, they were mainly all Nixon ones from '68 and '72. The only problem is that, now I cannot find them Sad

I've got a half dozen of these.

...that's about it.  I guess I'll get some more old stuff when the parents die.

I have a small collection of 'old' atlases dating from the 1920's to the 1960's showing the world in flux. I have a great Readers Digest Atlas of Britain full of diagrams and inset maps which is a snapshot of the whole nation in the early 60's. I still find that information useful today.

I also collect 'petty' militaria; buttons and cockettes and so on. I don't lik arms our armous, I prefer more personal items, like water holders, belt buckles etc, things the standard soldier would carry. But not medals or very personal items. Buying an old soldiers medals seems like an intrusion.

If I had money to seriously burn - I could see myself collecting things like Georgian furniture or original print photographs.

I collect older books, but that's it, along with comics and baseball/basketball cards.

I collect American militaria of all kinds, but one of the most interesting sub-collections one can build within a militaria hobby is postal history.  Patriotic covers with regimental imprints are my favorite, used or unused.  I really like the vividly colorful ones.

And soldiers' letters and diaries are often absolutely riveting to read.  But I even like the envelopes without the contents.

Coins which I'm interested in, and I whole bunch of post cards that I inherited but am not all that interested in.

I also collect old computers including a TRS-80 Color Computer maxed out with a full 32KB of RAM and a single-sided floppy disk and an AT&T UNIX-PC with a whopping 20MB hard drive.

America militaria, we have a rather large collection of War Between the States arms and equipment. My favorite piece is the Wagon Canteen that came off of a Federal Ambulance Wagon. Jeff collects campaign buttons, most of those are newer, although I did get him a Roosevelt one that turned out to be a fake.  :0)~

We might have been stubborn in not listening to your demands to simply vacate, but didn't you guys shoot first?

Well, if we're gonna be completely accurate -- then I would go with "The War of Southern Stupidity".

But since that offends most people, "Civil War" or "War Between the States" work interchangeably for me.

Yeah...but if y'all hadn't been so stubborn we wouldn't have had to shoot!  Smiley

I'm actually interchangeable on names, Unless I'm at UDC.
Anyways..It makes for good collecting.  I actually wouldn't mind collecting Rev War gear but that could get pricey!

So that's why you stick to stuff from the Second American Revolution? Wink

I gouged my finger on a Jack Miller button a few years ago.  It sort of sapped my enthusiasm.

Coins, a lot of French ones but also other countries and a few banknotes from India, Bangladesh etc.

My oldest coin is a Third Empire coin from 1870, I have one from 1906, 1916, a few from the 1930s, a Vichy French coin from 1942, and a sh**tload of Fourth Republic and early Fifth coins too.

Also some old National Geographic maps found in Riyadh.

I collect lanyards. Sounds weird yea, but I've got maybe a hundred or so.

I've got a lot of random political signs and bumper stickers from 2006 because I wrote to every single Democratic campaign asking for some, but nothing of particular value. I've also got some old Presidential bumper stickers and buttons, but nothing rare. There's also some buttons hanging on my wall from various campaigns that I've just liked, again nothing rare. My neatest one is maybe a 1976 Prohibition party one. I've also got a Biden and a Gore button from 1988 (and another Gore from 2000) and a Perot and Anderson button.
