i actually like it.  im waiting on topics on harry byrd. terry sanford (a role model of mine), estes kefauver, albert gore,  john stennis, russll long, j. william fulbright...et al.

and a complete showboat during the watergate hearings.

I wouldn't say "staunch". Yes, he did oppose Civil Rights legislation (and for that, I can never truly forgive him) but he seemed to sincerely do so on states' rights grounds and didn't really seem to actually support segregation. Calling him a staunch segregationist makes no more sense than calling Barry Goldwater one.

Same here, although in his later years he finally did become sane. Smiley
