Results from Poll 2:  Andrew Jackson won with 9 votes, John Quincy Adams with 8 votes came in second.  Van Buren, Harrison, and Tyler came in distant third, fourth, and fifth.  Jackson and Adams move on to Round 2.

Poll 3 expires Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 8:30 pm CDT

I vote for James Buchanan.  He did what he could in the lead up to the Civil War and the Abraham Lincoln era.

You messed up the dates with Taylor and Fillmore.

I take Taylor. He messed things up the least.

Oops.  Slight error.  Taylor is 49-50 and Fillmore is 50-53.

I suppose Fillmore, as his presidency is marked by the fact that he did not have enough time to do anything atrocious.

Polk I suppose, although he's nothing to write home about. All of these were pretty terrible, especially Pierce and Buchanan.

Polk started an expantionist war with Mexico.
Taylor and Fillmore were xenophobic protectionists.

This leaves me with Pierce and Buchanan. I'll stick with Pierce, because while Buchanan didn't no anything about the South's peaceful secession, he condemned it.

Haven't read much of it but I am in favor of expanding the US a lot. As most know here I am an imperialist.

Kind of ironic, considering I'm an anarchist.

To be fair, if we had gone further with it, we'd only be going in with Canada.  A couple of good excuses later and we're knocking on Columbia's doorstep by 1870.  Other than British Honduras (Belize) the rest of Central America would (maybe?) have been happy to have consistent rule of law and would have prospered after the invention of Air Conditioning like the US South, SouthWest and Texas have.  Everybody would have been better off in the long run and that border (Panama/Comumbia) would be a LOT easier to maintain (short and swampy) security on.

All are bad choices. However, between an two men who failed to confront Slave Power and the Confederacy, anti-Catholic bigot, an imperialist, and a man who did not live long enough to do anything worth remembering but who did promise to stand up against pro-slavery states who tried to secede from the Union, I'll choose the latter.

Yeah, wouldn't work unless you wanted all the governments to make war on their neighbors for resources and kill a lot of people.

I was of course exagerating there, though there is some truth to it. I would personally favor allowing people to choose private defense agencies to defend their property, rather than having the government hold a coercive monopoly on property protection.

James Polk, easily America's greatest president.

also, this game shouldn't be called Survivor unless we're voting people out, one at the time.
