What are his chances if he ran?  Does he have any chance of winning, and if not, how close will he get?

I guess he could try running, but I don't know if the deep south will be ready for a Black senator, governor, or president, for many years to come (maybe in 30-40 years, after every generation has lived after the civil rights movement). Then again, Louisiana voted for Bobby Jindal...

If I were him, I'd keep the House seat.

Governor Artur Davis?

It might sound good on paper for the citizens of Alabama but there's one problem, not that it should matter, the colour of his skin. As Ottermax stated earlier, I do not think that the Deep South is ready for an African-American Senator, Governor or President.

He's been saying he'll run for Governor for like, a decade now. I'll believe that when I see it.

We are, but it would be easier with a Republican.  The problem in that scenario is that a strong white Dem would always pop up and flush that dream down the drain.

He's already bought a house in Alabama to meet residency requirements, but apparently his plan is to run in 2014... and as an Independent.

So Artur Davis is fine I suppose.

Davis would lose. Probably pretty badly; after all, in order to win statewide a Democrat has to win Northern Alabama...
