Since things are going to get worse for Stevens, Begich is already in a good position.

Especially in light of the Palin machine, I have to agree... Why cede this seat?

Stevens will likely win in the end but it's not worth the money to defend his ass. Plus, we should get rid of this guy even if he was super safe.

Democrats better nominate Obama if they want this seat.  He only trails by five points in Alaska.  http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/alaska/election_2008_alaska_presidential_election

Don't blow this one Democrats.

It really is too bad that the polls in Alaska almost invariably underpoll Republicans.

Still, there is always the decent chance that Stevens gets indicted - that's probably what's going to be needed.

Wow.  I thought this one was going to be closer than normal but this just seems crazy.  Has Begich made any official moves towards running yet?

And an exploratory committee

Why isn't Sean Parnell running for this seat instead?

Good to know.  I hadn't heard too much about this race from his end other than he was considered the Democrats top choice.

Being investigated by the FBI and in the middle of a massive corruption scandal generally isn't something that is looked on too fondly by many voters

Why isn't Sean Parnell running for this seat instead?

Because Ted Stevens is an Alaskan Institution whose popularity figures, while not great anymore, are still good enough to make Don Young's mouth water and eyes fill with tears. Unless indicted, Stevens is safe in a primary. Even indicted, he might win.
Even though the allegations against Young look far more harmless from a non-Alaskan perspective.

I see. Not that I'm adverse to seeing Stevens go though. Those corrupt Alaska Republicans were never among my favourites anyway. Let's resurrect Tony Knowles for another almost-there failed campaign!

This is probably one of the seats I'd most like for the Democrats to swing over. Hence, it probably won't happen.

Plus his dad was a Representative for Alaska until he tragically pulled an Amelia Earhart. He even beat Don Young. Now that I think about it, it would have been more epic for him to face Don Young. Oh well.
