Even though I'm not a senator can we get someone to try and table this?

Without commenting on the desirability of the bill, I do wonder why it is proposed to have this bill apply to just the territories.  Defining standards for items of commerce nationwide is within the enumerated powers of the Senate.  I realize that as our Constitution is in general somewhat more stringent on the division of powers federally than that of the United States, but in this area, national standards are permitted.

I oppose this bill as an infringement on the rights of territories to regulate what they serve within their boundaries.

This is the first time I've agreed with you during your term, Mr. President.

Mr. President, I highly doubt that this bill, originally sponsored by your current Vice President will make it to your desk.

I'd support this bill if applied nationwide, but only to the DC and territories creates a huge issue in that you're basically just banning food products from those areas, since the area is too small to encourage companies to simply cease use of trans fat altogether (which is what a national ban would do.)

So it doesn't bother you that this bill would infringe on the rights of territories to govern what they serve, but rather that it doesn't apply to the regions?

I'm going to withdraw this. I'm not really that on board with it myself, and I was only introducing it because the Vice-President had wanted it debated but then left the Senate. Ebowed has a lot of bills in the queue though and I don't want to be bogged down with lots of bills that don't have a primary sponsor anymore (or in the case of this one very much support at all).

Any Senator has 72 hours to assume sponsorship.

I will take up sponsorship of this bill, though I would also like to amend it to cover all of Atlasia instead of just DC and the territories.

You'd just get the wrath of the regional governments/regionalists on you if you do that, in addition to the President's opposition to this bill.

Yea, there's no way this is getting enough votes to override Phil's veto. But if you really want to go through the motions...

Although if any Senator objects to CultureKing's motion then the bill will have to be withdrawn under Senate rules (hint, hint).

The bill would actually mean something though if it did apply to the whole of Atlasia.

I object to Senator CultureKing's motion to assume sponsorship, by reason of the extensive backlog of bills in the queue and the unlikelihood of this bill's success.

...by reason of the extensive backlog of bills in the queue...

Whatever about this bill, there is no substantial backlog of legislation anymore. If the current rate of legislation creation to legislative disposal holds up, there will be next to no waiting time for legislation by the time the next Senate is seated.
