1948 is more realistic date for Eisenhower to be a potential candidate for the Vice Presidency. As Xahar said, he would be on the front lines on the beaches in Normandy and would be making his way to Berlin.

As for your 1944 Scenario with Eisenhower as FDR's running mate, here's your map GZ67:

Franklin D. Roosevelt/Dwight D. Eisenhower (D): 432 EV, 53% of the PV
Thomas E. Dewey/John Bricker (R): 99 EV, 45% of the PV

If FDR was going to pick a military man to be his running mate in 1944. it would likely have been Chief of Staff to the Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy, Admiral William Daniel Leahy.  While it wouldn't have had an affect on the election, it would have had an effect on World War II, assuming Leahy was truthful in his 1950 memoir.  Leahy said in it that he would have rejected the use of the atomic bomb, as he thought the Japanese were ready to surrender anyway.

That said, I can't see FDR doing that as it would have signaled that he thought that this was going to be a long war, and with Leahy as his running mate, he may well have been proved right if the Japanese invasion of Manchuria and Korea didn't provoke a Japanese surrender without the atomic bomb being used.

Roosevelt/Eisenhower            432
Dewey/Bricker                           99

There is no reason to believe that the results would be any different in 1944 with a change in FDR's running mate.  FDR would win in a landslide regardless of who his running mate was.

Eisenhower could have been nominated as Vice President will still serving as head of the allied forces in Europe.  At this point in time, the war effort required his entire time, so Eisenhower would have addressed the nation by radio.

Obviously, upon the death of FDR in April, 1945, Ike would have had to return to the U.S.  By this time, however, the war in Europe was pretty well over.
