Maybe because I've had to explain why my name is Rin-chan.  For example:

I got the name Rin because my name is Lau-RIN.  Phonetically, it sounds like Rin, and it sounds Japanese enough so I thought it would be a cute nickname.

There, I said it a few more times lol  And I've had to explain that a few times before.
