I'm doing another pointless excercise, this time to see which candidate won the state of a majority of tems each election. EV totals reflect number of teams in that state; actual winners are bolded.

1872:

Grant: 8
Greeley: 1

Two teams in Washington not counted.

1876:

Hayes: 4
Tilden: 4

1880:

Garfield: 8
Hancock: 0

1884:

Blaine: 18
Cleveland: 13

Chicago-Pittsburgh arbitrarily assigned to Illinois. Two teams in Washington not counted.

1888:

Harrison: 11
Cleveland: 4

One team in Washington not counted.

1892:

Cleveland: 6
Harrison: 5

One team in Washington not counted.

1896:

McKinley: 10
Bryan: 1

One team in Washington not counted.
