The majority of Americans say they are dissatisfied with the state of things in the United States, a poll released Monday indicated.

Fifty-five percent of respondents to a survey by the Gallup Organization said they were unhappy with how things are going, while 44 percent said they were satisfied. Previous Gallup polls indicated at least 50 percent of respondents have been dissatisfied since early January.

The unhappiness quotient was down, however, from findings throughout the spring. Dissatisfaction topped out in early May when 62 percent of respondents said they were dissatisfied and 36 percent reported being happy with the way things are going.

Earlier polls indicated the highest level of satisfaction came in 2001 following the terror attacks of Sept. 11, which gradually dropped below 50 percent in the summer of 2002.

The poll's results are based on telephone interviews conducted Aug. 9-11 with 1,017 U.S. adults, and have a margin of error of 3 percentage points.

The data is selfexplanatory.

I am concerned about the time frame when the American Voter was most satisfied and that time was Jan 2002 some 3 1/2 months after 9/11.

At that time I do not know whether we were in Afghanistan or not, but it is a well known fact that big brother Government was out in full force with goodies for everyone.  It just goes to show that Most Americans seem to want the Government to take care of them, and they think that their taxes are being used judiciously.

This is bothersome.
