The thing that makes me happy about poll is that not that Obama is +10 over Clinton, or that Obama is +3 over McCain or Hillary is +6 over McCain, it is that Bush has a 69% disapproval rating. That makes me smile. Smiley

Is Clinton running 3 points stronger than Obama against McCain because of a higher retention rate among Democrats?

I think the Obama inevitiability factor is the key reason why Obama is 10% up for the nomination - but Clinton does better than him against McCain in the individual match-ups.

They think Obama's going to win the nomination no matter what - but more would support Clinton against McCain.

The fact that Obama is only 10 points ahead of an opponent who has no conceivable chance in getting the nomination is not saying much about Obama.

Most people don't realize this.

One of the other news services said "within the past 70 years."  I don't recall what caused FDR to be so low other than the recession, but he's often praised as being on of the top 15 presidents.  Just goes to show that in-term popularity polls don't mean much when you are able to look at history and judge the long-term results.

No, he's the most unpopular President in the history of the poll.

Bush is the weakest link. Good-bye. Gee, I would be dissapointed if we can't win now.

Don't be.  Your party has a habit of choosing the worse of the bunch.  It should be a battle between Richardson and Biden right now, not Killary and Obama.

If it weren't due to the limited poll history, I'd imagine that Roosevelt's court-packing plan and the downturn of 1937-38 was the cause of his low numbers.  The Republicans gained 6 Senate seats and 81 House seats in the 1938 elections, so that was definitely FDR's low point.

No, it just states that Democrats are pretty divided on who their nominee should be
