a typical white person. Republicans tend to drive cars like BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Toyota SUVs, Cadillac Escalades, or GMC SUVs. Oh, and Hummers. Young Republican girls drive BMW SUVs.

A mid sized Ford?  You could be anybody.  A "Republican" might buy it because he "loves America" and wants to support American workers with his purchase.  A "Democrat" might buy it because he "loves America" and wants to support American Union workers.

Most people are smart enough not to judge someones politics by the car they drive.

(not that you can't tell a lot about a person by what kind of car they drive, you certainly can.  But not politics...at least not with a car as vague as a mid sized Ford.  Now if you're talking Saab's or Subaru's you can make some broad generalizations, especially if you see the person driving the car.  Or big Ford F-250's with a scrotum hanging from a shiny unused trailer hitch.  Or an early 80's full size GM car of various flavors full of Hispanics in hard hats at 7:30 on a weekday morning.)

That's not really realevent when talking about the kind of person who would buy a car because the nameplate on it is an "American" brand.

Interestingly enough, there was a (very unscientific) poll about the kind of cars people drive and what it says about their political leanings:  "Politics Behind the Wheel"

If it wasn't a Ford, it would make you look like a liberal Democrat.

Those cars (in bold) fit more of the stereotypical democrat actually.

Around here, I've seen my fair share of Obama stickers on the backs of BMWs, Mercedes, and Volvos.

A horse's ass.  People please stop buying crap cars and maybe they'll stop making nothing but crap.  The only remotely decent cars still made are the Crown Vic/Grand Marquis/Town Car.

The only problem is that it's a Ford and you'll never get much more than 100,000 miles out of the transmission.  (I should know—I lost four Fords that way since I started driving, and will likely never buy another Ford again because of it.)

Front wheel drive Fords are atrocious all round.  But the few remaining rear wheel drive ones are much better, and in any case all we have now that GM dropped that sensible platform.

Remember that rich people in the South are almost uniformly Republican. Not so out west or up north.
