15 years ago - I would've been four. Probably home from nursery school.
10 years ago - I would've been nine. Still at school in third grade. My teacher used to take us out to play kickball at the end of the day.
5 years ago - I would've been fourteen. Still at school in eighth grade. Winding down the end of the year in some class.
1 year ago - 18, 12th grade. I had Speech and Debate last period so I'd be there right now.
6 months ago - Preparing to leave for Thailand (has it been six months already?). Scared shitless o/c.

So they wouldn't have to shower with the other guys afterwards?

You took showers afterwards? I didn't know they had showers in those one-room schoolhouses.

20 years ago I was enjoying my honeymoon in Vienna. We had a room in a nice little hotel inside the Ring. May 1 was a beautiful day to walk around, even if most everything was closed.

15 years ago I was writing a final exam in classical mechanics as I completed my first teaching semester. I had lost my first election the previous month, but since so many people were interested in what I had to offer, the loss wasn't too bad. Having an infant in the house was pretty exciting as well.

10 years ago I was preparing finals for a couple of courses, and preparing to take a full year devoted to research. I was writing a lot of C++ code and just come back from NY where I was  working on building my design of a new high-speed processor. My evenings were mostly devoted to activities related to my official work for the city and I flexed my time to raise two preschoolers within our two-income family.

5 years ago I was swearing in a new council and assigning committees locally while serving on county and regional organizations. Professionally I was chairing a state curriculum articulation committee and drafting standards for course transfers and developing a new set of laboratories for introductory physics.

1 year ago I was working on laws to provide funding for child advocacy centers, new penalties for juvenile gang offenders, study the creation of science economic zones, and assisting in an overhaul of governance for mass transit. I didn't get to see my family much in May one year ago.
