So that no one thinks I'm in the wrong party:

Yes I think that there's some programs and regulations that should be cut. But I also think NAFTA needs fixing, we need universal healthcare, the bush tax cuts were stupid, we should support our small businesses more and global warming is real among other things. And with very few exceptions I'm pretty solidly socially liberal even if I'm generally too burnt out to vote on them like some people here.

Well, I hate both parties in action, however, I agree with a lot of Republican principles

By "The modern world happened" - do you mean things like the welfare state?  Entitlement culture?  Wealth redistribution (aka socialism)?

I don't need a Nanny state telling me what is best for me  - and I sure as hell don't want to pay for said guidance.

Foreign policy adventures. Think Bismarckian Prussia, but on a much larger scale.

BTW, you're talking to a socialist here.

No - I didn't realize you were a socialist.  I see you and I will probably disagree on a lot of things!

I respect your right to your opinion even while I strongly disagree with it.  I look forward to many future discussions...

We have our fair share of anarcho-libertarians here, too. Welcome aboard. Smiley

Neither am I, but the size of the military isn't something you can fix with one fell stroke.

My views are basically the following:

Social: Leave most issues to the states.
Economic: Fiscal Responsibility & Small Business friendly policies.
Foreign Policy: Non-Interventionist.

Note I'd consider the second to include a reasonable tax code and some services like Universal Healthcare.

LOL, what happened to the fellow interventionist, capitalist, and social moderate-conservatives such as myself?  I guess they aren't so common around here.

They actually constitute most of our GOP here.

I am a Independent who leans Democrat but I have voted Libertarian and Green before.

I consider myself a libertarian Democrat on most issues like legalizing marijuana, a BIG free speech supporter but also I do care for the environment.
