I promised some of the bigger, most decisive ones.  I'm a Gettysburg guy but I collect Civil War artifacts and documents, so you can hardly blame me.

Teutoberg Forest, the greatest of the Three Woes of Augustus.  Damn Hermann.

Tuetonberger Wald. I wonder how a few militias were able to destroy three whole brigades of Roman Soldier and I wonder what would have been if the natives didn't do as well as they did...

Short answer to the first part: the three Roman legions (roughly 12,000 soldiers) were marching in single file (stupid Varus) through a dark, unfamiliar, rainy forest, the ground muddy, with enemy soldiers to every side, so they couldn't attempt any sort of defense whatsoever.

Stalingrad, with Teutoburg close behind.

Rude of you to group such great battles in one thread, voted Trafalgar because no one else had.

I was pm'd and asked to pick some pivotal ones! LOL

Gettysburg here.  But yeah -- all of 'em if I could.
