This thread needs to be deleted. The "delete threads" button has apparently disappeared into thin air.

Considering that speech of Mr. Porter's, like many of his was very short, we'd now like to present Conway Twitty on stage to sing his hit Did you know your love had taken me that High

I wish the Kennedy family no further tragedy.

I have to admit that this sentence in particular sounded kind of odd (and cheesy) to me. I mean, since Ted Kennedy isn't immortal this "family tragedy" is inevitably going to happen at one point... so this wish is pretty pointless and shallow. Instead, it would make more sense to wish that it doesn't happen now or any time in the near(est) future.

"Tragedy" (with respect to the Kennedys in particular) does mean that someone dies at his prime in a violent way or of other non-natural causes. Ted Kennedy on the other hand got rather lucky, since he was able to live his life to the fullest (and will hopefully continue to for some more years). His death would be one of the the least tragic in the family though.

That's what they said about Robert Byrd and Stom Thurmond.
