Whatever you get, buy it pre-owned. I have this odd preference. I get used to my car, and drive it for 15 years or more until it dies. My old car is my friend. We get used to each other. I had to give up my 30 year old TV, when Cox Cable ceased to support the analog cable signal. That sucks. I wanted to die with my old TV in place. I'm loyal that way.

I really hate Mercedes Benzs - they have the most uncomfortable seats, and they're only available as far as I've ever seen in leather, a material I despise.   Lastly they are not very reliable at all and cost a ridiculous amount for their frequent fixing.  There is really nothing good about a Mercedes except if you're the kind of insecure who feels the need to impress someone.

If you want a mid-sized 'luxury car' nowadays, get some stupid Lexus.  It will be a boring peice of sh**t but at least it won't break so much.

Maybe a few years ago, but have you been in a Benz recently? The seats are fine! Mine is rarely in the shop--the car you are thinking about is a Jaguar that is always broken. Owning a Mercedes is all about quality and service. I never have an issue getting a rental car from my dealer if I do have to take it in to the shop, and they always give me terrific service and Mercedes is one of the safest cars around.

Getting a Lexus is just like getting a glorified Toyota -- there's no point. And of course you buy a luxury car to impress someone! Ladies don't like old beat up cars. You must have one to stand out and be an elitist!

Nothing compares. I couldn't imagine driving any other car but a Mercedes.

No, I'm not thinking of a Jaguar and speaking of a Mercedes.  Both are piles, though certainly the Mercedes is not as bad.

I agree.  In my opinion there is no point to virtually any of the 'luxury' new cars.

Haha, well you obviously date women who - if we speak frankly - are prostitutes, but when I was a little younger I got lots of beautiful, intelligent women while driving old beat up cars.  I still do at 39, though obviously more rarely.  You see you need a personality and.. other attributes.  But I suppose, lacking those, purchasing their interest is your fallback position.

Since when were southern belles who like nice things called prostitutes? Maybe prostitutes are nice in Missouri, but not around here. Just because we are interested in different women doesn't mean I date prostitutes. It's nice to see you respect differences, as always. I love Mercedes just like you love the pieces of trash the poor girls you like drive. I respect that.

I guess I just don't understand.  There seems to be a much more rigid class system in the south.  "Like with like", I guess.

That doesn't happen nearly as much here.  People here have a common identity of community.  You help out.  Your problem becomes "our" problem.

I guess that makes us socialist commies.  But it has made us a lot healthier, smarter, more productive, and happier.

You give what you can, take what you need... and you never free-load.  It's an ingrained modesty we have.

Even the semi-homeless lady (she has a place to stay, thanks to welfare, but she is very destitute), when she doesn't have enough money to buy something and we offer a little money from our penny jar, she always replaces it when she can.

And it's not as if I don't know what I'm talking about.  I have family in Louisiana.  My cousin's husband, who works at Wal-Mart (and htey're living with my Aunt for lack of money), has been out of work for 3 weeks because of an abscessed tooth... he doesn't have insurance, so he won't go in and get the tooth pulled.  And I told my cousin "Margie... doesn't he realize he would actually save money by getting the tooth pulled and going back to work?"

Well, the dentist won't let him make payments.  He has to pay it in full the day of.  That's just ridiculous.  If he were in Minnesota, he'd have, at minimum, MinnesotaCare and he'd have been able to go to the dentist and get his tooth pulled and gone back to work paying a minimal co-pay and a minimal premium and everybody would say "that makes sense.  We, as taxpayers paid a little of his bill, but now he's back at work and working hard without a toothache."

I guess, again, I just don't understand.  I'll get off my soap box now.

Oh, and as far as cars go:

Buy something nice that is dependable and fuel efficient.  I'd get a Nissan.. they look classy without denting your pocketbook too much.  I also met the president of Nissan.. he's a very nice Okinawan man.

No, no, not manly enough.  I suggest trading in your Hummer for a new Hummer welded to another Hummer.

They're rarely called prostitutes, because their price is high.  But honest people can admit that their price is in fact proof of their prostitution.  Why can't you?

As for Nissans, I'm not really against them, but I hate to see a man like Bench-Press behind the wheel of some silly little front wheel drive thing.  It just doesn't fit.  Hey Bench-Press, in all seriousness just get like a 3-5 year old Lincoln Town Car.  Huge bargain from new, and its a real car.

I was under the impression our favorite gym rat was under 40.  Nobody under 40 should be caught dead in a Town Car unless he's a pimp or it's a work car.

Just because other young people are too stupid to buy a decent car doesn't mean our favorite gym rat has to be.  There's something very cool about guys in their 20s-30s driving big cars.  Bucking the trends as it were.  And anyway small cars are quite feminine (though a 20s-30s female driving a big car is even cooler).

It is a nice car but terribly unreliable, like all Fords that aren't the Panther platform (Crown Vic/Merc Grand Marquis/Lincoln Town Car).
