Deaf, for all of the multitude of reasons given already.

Plus, it wouldn't be as much of a catastrophic loss as you think.  See Beethoven and this website.

I would rather have been deaf as a child.

Today, I would rather be blind. I could still listen to all of my favorite music and my eyes kind of suck anyway.
