In a recent speech in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Barak H. Obama made the following statement:

Obama also spoke about his uncle, who was part of the American brigade that helped to liberate Auschwitz. He said the family legend is that, upon returning from war, his uncle spent six months in an attic. “Now obviously, something had really affected him deeply, but at that time there just weren’t the kinds of facilities to help somebody work through that kind of pain,” Obama said. “That’s why this idea of making sure that every single veteran, when they are discharged, are screened for post-traumatic stress disorder and given the mental health services that they need – that’s why it’s so important.”

Now, when Clinton tells a whopper, the media is all over her.

I have had considerable pleasure exposing the many lies of Juan McVain.

But this story is so absurd that it dwarfs Kerry's "Christmas in Cambodia" tale.

You can see the story at the CBS News site under "obama talks of Family's Military Service"

I just saw this on Foxnews. Unless his uncle was in the Red Army, there's no way this was possible. Of course, we won't hear much of this in the media. They are still on Clinton's RFK statements.

Hell lets not discuss issues anymore...lets just pick apart every speech all the candidates make and dig up dirt about their past and how much their families and their lives suck.

Seriously...this is really retarded.

It was his great uncle, and he confused Buchenwald with Auschwitz.  It's not really that absurd.  Worst-case scenario is he changed "Buchenwald" to something more recognizable, which would be inappropriate, but it could also just be an honest (although ignorant) screw-up.

He wasn't exactly making things up like it initially seemed, though.

Was his uncle involved in the liberation of any other camp? Maybe he just misnamed it.

edit- nvm, alcon already confirmed my speculation.

You're kidding, right? The media has been incredibly pro-Hillary for the past two or three months.

Obama has received BY FAR the most scrutiny and criticism of the three remaining candidates.

Matchup,

This is NOT some "dirt" dug up about a statement made years ago.

Obama either really believes what he said (in which case he is delusional) or he is simply lying, and asuming he can get away with it.

HAHAAHAHA!!!!!!! Have you watched MSNBC recently? I'll give you that CNN may be tilted toward Clinton, but honestly, Obama is the biggest media darling I've seen in a while. Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann have been drooling over him since January, and people in the media have been calling for Hillary's withdrawal since she lost IOWA. Every little mistake Obama makes is quickly forgiven after his explanations are labeled as "historic responses."

Or he simply made a mistake that was neither dishonest nor intentional.

The impact this will have on the election: 0.3%

Why are we discussing this?

Obama either really believes what he said (in which case he is delusional) or he is simply lying, and asuming he can get away with it.

Or he simply made a mistake that was neither dishonest nor intentional.

Don't bring up facts with Carl; they confuse him.

Ever notice whenever you turn on the TV they're either talking about how Obama can't win white working class voters, about how he got destroyed in Kentucky/WV, or one of the numerous manufactured controversies involving Reverend Wright, elitism, etc.?

Do you ever see anyone on TV reporting anything negative involving Hillary Clinton or John McCain? You see maybe 1 negative Clinton story for every 5 Obama and McCain 1 negative story for every 15 negative Obama stories.

Alcon, I know you love spinning for Obama, but I cited what he said not what you are trying to tell people he really meant to say.

News stories typically include critical components like "who," and "where," and you tell me both of those were wrong, but, hey, its ok, because there is a different standard for Obama.

Explanations matter, but when people like Chris Matthews tells audiences that he's getting tingles up his leg when he hears Obama speak, it's getting a bit extreme. Claiming the media is incredibly pro-Hillary is just a riot. You'd have to say that over a computer, because you have to be on some serious sh*t to say that with a straight face.

Now I'll grant you that the views media has given McCain a free ride, but, to cite just a couple of recent examples of where they were all over Clinton:

Here statement about the Robert Kennedy assasination

Here claim to be under fire while traveling to eastern europe.

Yeah, if you're Obama, you have cable news commentators joking about your assassination and repeatedly referring to you as "Osama", as well as doing endless stories about Reverend Wright and flag pins.....

How anyone can say this guy gets favorable coverage from the media is beyond me. It's basically been a two-month long smear campaign against Obama conducted by the cable news networks and right-wing media outlets. Hillary Clinton and John McCain haven't had to deal with anything like that.

You know, to me, those seem like to entirely separate matters.  Whenever there is a half-assed story like this, someone brings up, "but Obama/McCain is getting a free pass!"  As if there was some sort of news cycle affirmative action, that justified giving attention to half-assed stories just to make things more "equitable."

I can't understand why this comes up in every thread like this, unless it's about rationalizing bad media coverage.

I can just see the attack ads...

An entire ad about how Obama "lied" about his Uncle's service and the liberation of a concentration camp of which he got the names switched around.

and in other news the housing market continues to collapse and gas has shot past $5.....

oh the outrage...

and Plus AHDuke..when you make a gaffe on foreign policy when your supposed to be a massive foreign policy wonk....yeah its a big deal. Idiot.

This is a non-issue.  The Republicans are treading on thin ice and could damage their reputation even more than it already is by beating Obama over the head.

The Republicans and Clinton-hacks have bigger fish to fry.  They are settling for guppies when they could have catfish.
