Wiki claims a lot more "factions" in the GOP. cite  But most of them overlap with big three above.  I'm just curious.  I always assumed the left would be friendlier with Libertarians than they would be with Fundies and other more "traditional" Republicans, but recently I've seen a LOT of anti-Libertarian posts.  Culminating with the thread in U.S. GP where left leaning posters are hammering Libertarians and praising Fundies.  I could have sworn that you guys have been bemoaning the Fundies as the worst thing since Hitler for the past 7 years or so, has Ron Paul scared you?  I have a theory or two as to why this is, but I'll wait and see how this turns out.

Funnily enough none of those three ideologies have any credibility(? Perhaps the wrong word - followers maybe?) outside the United States.

Libertarianism is just a silly form of US nationalism, however it is silly enough to be attacked while maintaing some sort of credibility which the fundies don't have.

That's an awfully narrow definition of Libertarian.  I use it more in the "classical liberal" kind of way as, I think, most Libertarians do.  No sane Libertarian would put a yellow ribbon magnet on his/her car.

"Classical Liberal"? Interesting, what's your opinion on Locke's Tabula Rasa or on the Mazzinian notion of the Nation State?

libertarians, easily.

most that ive encountered totally lack any compassion.  most fail to understand that there are people who have life experiences that put them behind.

fundies, and ive enountered tons in my time, at the very least, are usually very compassionate folks.

but the people who really make me want to vomit are these little twerps who call themselves 'democrats' but admire people like ron paul and bob barr.  how the hell does that work?

I have yet to form an opinion on the idea of tabula rosa (the idea that we're born as a blank slate and must learn everything, including how to learn), but I like the idea of a nation state.

I'd like to think that eventually everyone in the world will have all their basic human rights available to them (and protected from future bad guys with vigilance and force), but obviously we are not there yet.  In the mean time the best way to defeat tyranny is to group together as best we can to fight them.  I'm much more against tyranny than I am say, Socialism.  I don't like Socialism, but by itself it can be tolerable.  Totalitarian or authoritarian govts should never be tolerated.

Nationalism? Que? Libertarians tend to be very individualistic - hardly something that goes well with nationalism.

Fundies definitely.  Libertarianism should be annihilated.

Easy, Barr takes votes away from McCain and Paul is going to try to cause a huge mess at the GOP convention. It has nothing whatsoever to do with ideology.

I'd rather not battle any of them, frankly.  But in terms of an easy win, Libertarians and Neo-cons have some intellectuals in their ranks.  Fundies do not and are therefore quite easy to dispatch in an argument.

Fundies. I like some of the libertarian viewpoints. I absolutely despise fundies so I would love to battle them... and crush them. Neo-cons suck too obviously.

Libertarians at least seem to be a selective breed more concerned with actual ideological debates and, even though I disagree with them on many fronts, could possibly elevate the level of discourse in national debate. Then again, most of the libertarians I know are completely close-minded and therefore impossible to debate with very effectively.

In terms of making it easiest for my own position to win out? Libertarians. In terms of those I despise the most? Fundamentalists.

I vote for Paleo-cons, a group that embraces notions of pure unadulterated evil.

Fundies pretty much piss me off more than any other group in the republican party except for maybe the neocons. The neocons dont really have much support so they are irrelevant. The libertarian wing and the fundie wings are the big 2 in the party and gotta say I like libertarians more. Real Libertarians are just way out their with their ideas but I gotta say it is a little cute. It is a great fantasy to have that there will be no government and you will keep all your tax money. OMG how great.

I guess the difference for me is that fundies at least are doing what they believe is morally right and trying to live a lifestyle that is consistent with that (even though I believe that they are often wrong), whereas libertarians are often just being selfish spoiled dicks.

I'm saddened by how ugly you guys look upon Libertarians.  Which Libertarians have told you they wont NO government?  I only hear that from loons.  Have you ever met a Libertarian Harry?  There are a LOT more rich Democrats than there are rich Libertarians and why would a spoiled person NOT want free things from the state?

Yes, several of my close friends are libertarians.  Also a good number of my close friends are fundies.  We have lively political debates at times, but we usually talk about other things.

My friend's dad is a Libertarian, I really enjoy debating him; I don't think I've ever met a real diehard Fundie.
