My heart just sunk. Tim Russert was a consummate professional, a hard-working journalist, and a paragon of integrity and impartiality. He will be missed by many.

What a sad day for those who love politics. My prayers are with his friends and family.

A complete shock. Absolutely terrible. Rest in peace, Big Tim. My prayers are with his family and this country. We've lost a great man.

Terrible news. I really don't even know what to say beyond that. This is so strange.

Couldn't possibly say it any better than Phil.  Thanks, Phil.  And thanks to Tim for his years of service.

It's really tragic that it seems those that are truly genuine, good hearted, enthusiastic people are taken before their time. He was a man who was, by all accounts, extremely friendly, good natured, and a dedicated family man. He will be missed.

Tim truly did live...for all of us to see.

May he rest in peace.  I am truly sorry, especially for his elderly father.

Anyone else watching the memorial service? It's a shame that the audio keeps cutting out.

It's also fantastic that Obama and McCain sat next to each other at the funeral this morning. I wonder how that went.

I loved the guy, but I'm getting fatigue from the coverage.

Luke had a great speech. I'm sure he'll have a future in broadcasting.

Tom Brokaw has been named as Russert's temporary replacement, to last at least up through the November election:
