The 90-year-old longest serving Senator in American history, Robert Byrd has been rushed to a local hospital after arriving at the Senate chamber sluggish on Monday.

Still trying to get details.

My prayers and thoughts are with him.

He apparently has a fever and has been using a wheelchair recently.

He's 90. This sort of thing happens if you get to that sort of age.

We're praying for Senator Byrd and his family.

As well, let's remember to keep all our ailing leaders in our thoughts and prayers.  Ted Kennedy, Pete Domenici, Arlen Specter and Tim Johnson have all been in poor health this past year.

Isn't this the same clown who refused to serve in the armed forces because he didn't want to fight alongside the darkies?    The Exalted Cyclops Byrd reminds me of Emperor Palpatine.

I hope he gets well, but it still doesn't change the fact that he is a horrendous senator.  You do realize he is one of the most reactionary Dems in congress, right?  (His position on the Iraq war notwithstanding).

Mr. KKK is an embarrasment to your party.   Terrible senator from a terrible state.

Let's see.  A man who once held sickeningly racist views...who now rejects those views and admits they were wrong.

Let's compare him to a man who believes abortion providers should be put to death by the state and persists in that (Coburn) or a man who believes homosexuals should be legally prevented from holding jobs in schools or day care centers and, to my knowledge, has never repudiated that perspective (DeMint).

Yeah -- I'll take Byrd.  Even though he is one of my least favorite Democrats.

Absolutely not. I consider him one of the best in our party, and a splendid example of how one can change his views later in life. His recognition, and his remorse, of past mistakes makes him one of the politicians I admire most.

Doesn't look all that serious, and I hope nothing goes wrong for him.  Still, unlike Kennedy, this would have consequences if it did go bad.  A Republican would have a decent chance of getting the seat if they have a special election this November.  If the worst happens, we could end up having three different presidents pro tem in a Congress for the first time since the 62nd Congress when the PPT wasn't automatically assigned by seniority, and to resolve a deadlock over who was to get the position they rotated amongst five different Senators.  Let's hope we don't get a trivia question out of this.

I think West Virginians know how to split their tickets, and the Democratic Party OWNS West Virginia.

Unless Shelley Moore Capito were to run, the Republicans wouldn't stand a chance.

I heard his robe caught fire at a "rally" and he received some minor burns. Any truth to that rumor?
