I'm actually glad to see this playing out in California as opposed to somewhere smaller. As California goes, so goes the nation (at least eventually). It will have a much greater impact. Keep in mind, the outcome is not a foregone conclusion. Two years ago, Arizona voted down just such an amendment. Even though we've been the only state to do so, the fact that an initiative such as this can fail in a state as conservative as Arizona leaves hope.

The people putting it on this ballot need to be ashamed for being so hateful.

Those social conservatives from groups like ProtectMarriage are the same fools we hear in the news caught soliciting sex from minors on the net.   I hope California voters bitchsmack the resolution.

Or like Beverly Russell, former South Carolina Chairman of the Christian Coalition?  Google that SOB.

I really don't think Californians are going to pass this.

Demographically, they are like Arizona in the eastern part of the state, so expect a 50/50 split there, with the Amendment being crushed in the big cities.  San Fran/San Jose is going to go 80% against a ban, LA maybe around 60% against.  I don't think it can pass like that.

Arizona ban also banned civil unions, IIRC

Egad....... Angry

Well, at least it's the people trying to do this, as opposed to some federal judge.

I think the ban will pass. There will be strong support for it in southern california and they do make up the majority of the vote.

Ah, yes...the people...the tyranny of the majority. This is the ugly side of a loose, easy ballot initiative process.

Whichever way it goes, I think it will be close to 50-50.

That's the problem when you don't have compulsory voting (this is not the topic) - this is one of those topics where how much you care is really important.

It'll come down to whose supporters are the most passionate... sadly it's proven to be the screeching minority. I think the majority either support gay marriage or don't care enough to bother voting - but who'll actually turn out to vote?

I think it wins 52%

Good thing it will be held at the same time as the presidential election. This might bring out the younger voters who may vote against this but would not care enough to vote if only this was on the ballot.

It should hurt the Proposition that there will 4 1/2 months worth of gay marriages that will be revoked if it passes.

Yeah, it's screwed up, but it's their time and effort to waste.

Gay marriage bans are the triumph of hateful bigots with no place in modern society.

It would be rather amusing if the "people decided" to allow gay marriage in their state. What would the social conservatives do then, since they tend to blame the whole issue on the actions of a few judges. I guess they'd have to go on about the kooky Californians then.

Of course, the reverse is also true here, which is why I hope this ban fails.

Havelock - are you from Havelock, NC?  I have family there and they are no good, the sort of depraved libertines that I spoke of in my last post.

Anyway, I find it quite bigoted to call people bigots.  Gay marriage is perhaps the most bigoted thing out there, bigotry against God for ordaining male + female instead of male + male, female + female, male + dog, et cetera.  Thank goodness that forty-eight out of fifty states have the good sense not to allow that sort of rubbish within their borders.

As I read this, my dog was giving me the eye. How fortunate that I don't live in one of those states that have "had the good dense not to allow that sort of rubbish within" its borders.
