Decided to make a compilation Atlas Persons of the Decade thing. It'd be good if people would take some time to explain their choice.

I've put together all of the nominations from the lists people submitted here. The poll will run for 3 days.

Good idea. Smiley

I chose Roosevelt as the creator, along with McKinley, of a militaristic American society, which would shape the 20th Century in many, many ways.

I'll pick Einstein. Not just because I have a scientific background, but because his works in 1905 shaped the rest of the century. In one year he published five papers, any of which would have been the signature work of a lifetime. From the technologies that were derived from those works much of the political framework of the mid to late 20th century emerged.

I stuck with my original nomination of the Wright Brothers. The movement of man into the skies represents a very significant step in our technological capacity that foreshadows our ability to leave the very Earth itself.

Air flight has had massive effects on society and now allows a great many people to truly travel and explore our world. It has hastened the development of international trade, both of goods and ideas. It was also a technological development which would eventually lead to the shift of the focus of warfare which came to acknowledge the imperative of aerial control. Without it the nature of day to day living in the modern world would be very, very different.
