Perennial candidate Bob Kelleher, who earlier this month won the GOP primary for US Senate in an upset, has announced he supports abolishing the Presidency and Congress in favor of a Prime Minister and parliament. That prompted former State House Majority Leader Mike Lange (R) -- who lost the primary to Kelleher -- to jump back into the race as a write-in candidate for the general election. US Senator Max Baucus (D) is a safe bet to score an easy win over the two challengers.

On a side-note, could we see Baucus re-elected with 70%-80% of the vote in November?  And if his landslide is big enough, what affect does this have on Barack Obama's Presidential campaign in Montana?

I doubt it. His ceiling is probably in the middle-to-upper 60s.

Surely you are too intelligent to seriously believe in "reverse coattails."

Wow, do we have horrible luck with Senate candidates against Baucus or what? Remember that guy from 2002? Taylor or something? The one with the intense mustache. Remember how he thought Baucus hinted at him being gay so he dropped out of the race only to get back in the race in the final days?

The Montana Republican Party is hilarious. Are they all on something?

Apparently this idiot does not understand how a parliamentary system works. It would not involve abolishing the presidency.

The presidency shouldn't be abolished, but it should be relegated to the strictly executive function it should have. Policy making should be an affair for the congress only, and the policy agenda should be set yearly by the speaker of the house.

It certainly should. John McCain's proposed Question Time would be a start, if a very small one. One of the silver linings behind a 2008 GOP victory.

At this rate, the GOP will nominate an actual clown in 2014.

I think so (in the '70s).

Perennial candidate Bob Kelleher, who earlier this month won the GOP primary for US Senate in an upset, has announced he supports abolishing the Presidency and Congress in favor of a Prime Minister and parliament.
The only time he was ever elected, was in the 1970s when he was elected to the state constitutional convention, and was pushing for a parliamentary system for Montana.

Here's an article from 2002 when the Green Party wasn't sure about wanting him as its senatorial candidate either.

Big sky greeens - Green Party forms in Montana

"It's not that he's not a nice old guy, or that we don't like him or anything, we just felt that he would give people the wrong impression about the Green Party," says Scott Proctor, head of the state party. He cited Kelleher's abortion stance as well as his "far-fetched" ideas like the support of a parliamentary government. Proctor says that he asked Kelleher if he would be willing to run for a more realistic office like state legislature, but Kelleher refused.
