Well, the federal government shouldn't be able illegalize them (not their business, 10th Amendment) but if states want to they can and should be able to. However, I don't think they should make any counties dry.

I don't see why they should be.

No need to illegalize them. Simply cut off transportation funding and welfare grants for states that have them.

no absolutely not.

ive been noted and even ridiculed on this site for my fondness of a stiff drink.  but even i dont think of stupid ideas like this.

i think dry counties and towns are ridiculous and pointless.  at the same time, if podunk county north dakota wants to be 'dry'...more power to them.

by the way, the county i came up in in virginia was 'dry' and my parents still managed to get a good and drunk on a very frequent basis.

I'll go with that.

How is that different from a ban?

What constitutes dry?  My town is "dry" but you can still bring liquor to a restaurant, and some restaurants even have liquors stores they own next door.

Dry counties are yet more proof(Not that we need yet more proof) protestantism's flaws outnumber any redeeming features it may have. Remember, the whole idea of trying to create a society of saints(the utopian ideas leading to 'progressive social engineering' and totalitarianism) comes from them(well to be specific XVI century ones such as the levellers or the quakers).

I personally think giving the feds those powers(to threaten states via unfunded mandates) is stupid and not a good move but I see no problem with using them while they exist to promote my agenda.

it shouldnt be a federal or state issue.

it is a local issue.

Also nowhere in North Dakota WANTS to be dry. The only dry places in the Midwest are really small Dutch towns or ones also dominated by really conservative religious sects. The largest dry town in Minnesota (pop. 2000) is one of those.

Outside of such places the idea of going dry would be thought of some sort of joke in the Midwest.

Yes.

Walter is quite dumb if he honestly thinks ND is where most dry municipalities are. As I said earlier, they're illegal there, so why is he using that state as an example? But hey, can't expect Walter to make sense.

As a teetotaler and a resident of a dry county, I say that the entire concept of a "dry county" is completely ridiculous.  If you don't want to buy alcohol, don't buy any (that's what I do).  Don't force others to live like you.

I don't agree with Harry on many things.  But this is one case where I do!

What I put in my body should be my choice.  Don't push your morality on me!

Yet you hate tabacco companies and want incredibly gun control?  Why is tabacco so much worse than alcohol?  Personally I only use the latter, but your statement is absurd

Because some people (not alcoholics) can have a glass of wine or beer or whatever and move on and be fine.  You can't just casually smoke or shoot people without problems, but you can do so with alcohol.

Of course you can casually smoke without any problems.
