Firefox comes with this "Latest Headlines" feature as I am sure a good deal of you know.  it links to BBC stories about world news.  I probably look at it twice a day and skim the articles that look interesting...

so basically there has been a dispute about money and now Ukraine no longer gets gas from Gazprom, at least not for a while, as they have a bit in reserves (but nonetheless this probably isn't sustainable).  but in the last few days the Russians have accused Ukraine of 'stealing' some gas that heads through Ukrainian pipelines to EU countries (the EU gets a decent share of its gas from Gazprom and a lot of this gas needs to travel through Ukrainian pipelines to reach its ultimate destination).

the Ukrainians deny this and say they aren't interfering with gas travel through their pipelines but nevertheless, Gazprom now says the Ukrainian pipelines can no longer be used in trade with the EU and they need to find an alternate method of transport:

I take Ukraine.  GMantis, you get Russia as always.

Clearly this is just more Putin being a douche to his neighbors to see how they and west react.  Good luck world.
