I don't think there's any real great Presidents in here; although some may look great when compared to who they were running against. I'm going to try and put personal biases aside and just focus on which would be the most competent leaders.

The Good...
Bob Dole
Hubert Humphrey
Adlai Stevenson
Al Gore

The rest...
John Kerry
Walter Mondale
John Anderson
Barry Goldwater
George McGovern
Michael Dukakis
Ross Perot (he would get nothing passed in Congress)
George Wallace

This is pretty difficult to do. Gore faces easily the most difficult job out of any of these people and there are a lot of negative factors outside his control. Kerry gets The Iraq War and a barrage of economic concerns. More difficult circumstances upon which to assume a Presidency.  Dole on the other hand gets a pretty easy first term but faces the same challenges Gore does in a hypothetical second term. Dukakis basically gets Gulf War I and the recession. I don't know if the former even occurs, at least as soon as it did. McGovern gets the end of Vietnam, the oil crisis, inflation, etc. and then the hostage crisis if he wins re-election. Mondale gets the negotiations with Gorbachev and the fall of the Berlin Wall in his first term; then the possible recession and Gulf War I in his second term. So does Mondale get credit for the fall of communism and U.S. victory in the Gulf War (assuming we go to war)?

Goldwater, Wallace, and Perot can only truly be selected as "bad Presidents." Perot gets nothing done in congress, Goldwater inherits Vietnam and race riots, and Wallace in 1968 was a nutjob.

Good
Al Gore
Hubert Humphrey
Adlai Stevenson

Middling
Michael Dukakis
Walter Mondale
Bob Dole

Bad
John Kerry (Mostly because everything would have gone to hell and he'd be blamed)
George McGovern
John Anderson (He had some ties with Congress, so he would have been able to pass some of his agenda, but otherwise he'd get very little done)

Horrible
Barry Goldwater
Ross Perot (A do-nothing, 1-term presidency)
George Wallace (Hey guys, let's elect a segregationist! America would be effed)

Al Gore (b/c 9/11 under him could have been the end of America)

You don't really believe that, do you?
