Inspired by a 'Numbers' episode airing tonight involving a woman (a former mother, as it turns out) luring pedophiles into empty homes, knocking them out, tying each one up on a chair, and then beating them to death with a bat after they apologize in front of the video-camera for what they did.

No, because I wouldn't want to be charged for murder...

It sounds like the show Dexter though, which is, incidentally, brilliant.

From what I have heard I should watch it on Showcase the next time it's on. Looks like I'll be watching alot of television over the holidays thanks to my Mum's punishment, and if I do, I'll make sure it's good television Smiley. Unlike Ironside. LOL Robert Reed.

No.  But it was a good episode.  Did you watch both of them?

It's possible.  It would depend on the circumstances though.  I generally prefer using the legal system to bring bad guys to justice, but I think there can be a time and place for a little vigilantism here and there.  I know if somebody hurt one of my kids and the courts failed us I'd be tempted to take the law into my own hands.

Isn't that the whole libertarian way?  You know - V for Vendetta type thing?

Sure.  We're (normally, there is no "regular" libertarian.  I know that's shocking to those of you with the wide brushes.) pretty big on the punishment side of things.  We think people should be consistently praised and rewarded for doing good and consistently punished and criticized for doing wrong.

No. But I would support that individual receiving a very light sentence of 6 months and 1000 hours of community service. Plus if I were mayor I'd give them the key to the city.

No, obviously I would turn such a busy-body in the moment I knew their whereabouts.  As for murdering 'pedophiles' (and presumably we mean by that term person who have acted upon their predelictions), whatever happened to the punishment being appropriate to the 'crime'?

If one diddles, the diddled is not killed by the diddling.  They are merely diddled, and perhaps upset by it, or chaffed.

I am sympathetic to the idea of diddling the diddler as a kind of eye-for-an-eye revenge, or to the rationalist's idea of locking him up just to prevent further diddling (at least outside the prison-house).  But I roundly condemn beating a diddler to death.
