Jean Schmidt's only significance is as a sign of GOP decadence in Congress and a harbinger of change. When you have people like her winning primaries and elevated to a position of power in the country, it is a sign that something is going badly wrong and hubris has set in. Something similar happened with the Georgia Democrats and the nominee for GA-12 in 2002.

It will happen to the Democrats, too, in time.
