So I have a friend who, for reasons that elude me, has decided to run for the State House. She's running as a Democrat in a very Democratic friendly district (Republicans rarely break 30%) against a long-time incumbent who is sort of old and crazy and doesn't do anything. There are also two Republicans running, which is helpful because under the top-two system there's a chance she could make it to the general.

But the reason I bring this here is that she has decided, again for reasons that elude me, to run a "green e-campaign" as she likes to call it. She has this idea in her head that she can win if she just focuses on the Internet and word of mouth and thus refuses to put up signs, print out brochures or fliers or anything that would use up paper.

My response was that if she did this whatever little chance she may have of winning was completely destroyed. But does anyone have any creative or interesting ideas as to how you might attempt to win a campaign if you cannot use any printed materials in the campaign?

You could also rely on phone banking but you're not winning without paper (literature, mailers, etc.)

If she's running a "green e-campaign", the hippie deserves to lose and quite frankly, I'd be honored to vote for the old nutcase.

She could get someone to plant trees to compensate for the paper.

And she could also drop the internet part of her campaign, since computers use electricity, which causes pollution to create, and therefore concentrate on word of mouth.

Electronic billboards?  Radio ads.  Phone calls.  Door to door.  One should be able to win without sticking signs in every other yard if they work hard and have a message the electorate believes in.

Is she running for Position 1 or 2?

Either way, she's going to need six thousand votes (estimate) to make the general.

Probably too late this year, but, two years from now, if she pulls the lists of the primary voters and engages in direct (in person) contact with literature, she may have a chance.

I'm guessing she's running against Flannigan, is that correct?
