I wouldn't really like to live in this part of the world, but Warsaw.

I guess I could've made a Middle East poll.

Istanbul is mostly in Europe geographically. And it's one of Europe's four really large cities if you include Moscow, which, really, just looking at a map, you maybe shouldn't.

Why did you set the treshold at 2 million?
So that he wouldn't have to include the City of Soviet Grandeur, Sofia.

What on earth is Istanbul (née Constantinople) if not a European city?

We at least have not leveled our city center so that the dictator could errect a palace. And if you think there is a major city in Eastern Europe where most of the architecture is not in Soviet style, you're deluding yourself.

A toss-up between St. Petersburg and Budapest. Kiev and Bucharest are sh**t holes, really the Ukraine doesn't have a whole lot going for it right now and at least Romania has natural beauty. Moscow is too expensive to live in and Warsaw is too Polish. As for Istanbul, I like Turkey but I don't think I could live there. The place I really like in Eastern Europe is Prague but that isn't on the list.

Budapest!  It's where my mother's ancestors hail from and I know a few words.  Hungarian is a difficult language, however.

Hungarian is a cool language. I know the alphabet (though I don't know what it means). But I have a Hungarian friend. Smiley

Quiz Time: What other two countries have a language that are closest linguistically to Hungarian? Don't cheat by looking it up!

Estonian and Lithuanian Finnish.

Odd you were correct on the more obscure country. I always keep separate in my mind the Baltic Countries this way 1) Lithuania: Slavic (Balto Slavic) and Catholic; 2) Latvia: Slavic and Lutheran; 3) not Slavic (not even Indo-European) and Lutheran.

Hmm. That's a nice way to distinguish them. I'll have to memorize it.
