There was an Economist feature a couple of months back comparing Paris and London, deriding Delanoë whilst marvelling at the transformation London's underwent. It sold me on the city.

Berlin. Great city, cosmopolitan, both affordable and comfortable to live there as an American. My mother would not be thrilled, she'll never go to Germany.
