English speaking countries don't tend to have these. The only one I can think of is New Zealand First. Are there any others?

Would you consider Fine Gael to be a Christian democratic party?

Fine Gael has an ideology?

FG is a member of the CDI, which groups most Christian democratic parties.

Wikipedia also considers Family First a Christian democratic party, but I disagree with that.

Well, that's not what differentiates it from Fianna Fáil.

The Australian one? It does sometimes get Labor preferences, so I'm unsure.

Despite their European memberships, I would actually consider FF to be the slightly more  "Christian Democrat" (as opposed to "Conservative" ie middle class-based) of the two Irish big parties.

I'd need a defintion of 'Christian Democracy' to work with to give a proper answer, but I'll say that it comes reasonably close to describing Fine Gael ideology (if such a thing exists) - though the adherents of former FG leader and Taoiseach Garret Fitzgerald (though they are increasingly hard to pick out in the FG parliamentary party) are probably closer to Social Democracy. The party also has its share of Conservatives. I think party leader Enda Kenny might probably be fairly described as a Christian Democrat.

Fianna Fáil certainly has its own share of Christian Democrats also - but then I don't think political ideology is something that crosses the minds of most FF representatives very often. Rare is the person who joins FF for ideological reasons. FF is to political ideology as the Church of England is to religion (said with tongue in cheek...kind of). It's more a social or a family thing than a firm belief in a path to better things.

For example, you'd be hard pressed  to figure out FF ideology from their website which focues on people (their representatives) rather than policy. FF is about who you know, who your family is, etc. - not what you believe.

At which point, I realise I've rambled on much more than I intended, but then such is the difficulty in pigeon-holing either of these parties.

To answer the question, I'l suggest the Nationalist Party of Malta.

Lewis is correct. Traditionally FG (and more to the bone, its predecessors - Cumann na nGaedhael, The Centre party and that comical semi-fascist group of cops and ex-army types) were considered as the more "bourgeoise" of the two Irish parties.

Anyway it should be remembered here that while Ireland speaks England it has quite a different cultural history to those of the other Anglo-Saxon countries.

On Fiana Gael and other Irish parties, Ireland is Catholic so it was bound to have at least one wing of a party be Christian Democrats.
