He's been mentioned because he's Jewish.

GOP affirmative action at its best. If he's considered, they should also add J.C. Watt to the list.

No, he's not my Congressman.

He's the Chief Deputy Republican Whip in the HoR, very conservative, and there's currently a movement to draft him:

Actually, I'm in Cantor's district.  I mentioned him on a previous thread but didn't know about the link Ben posted.  I'll have to check it out.

If one thinks about it, he's actually a logical choice to be McCain's running mate.  Not only has he risen fast in the House GOP leadership, he's practices what he preaches about spending.  He's on Ways and Means yet has sought $0 in earmarks for his district in the past two years.  He's conservative yet not a theocon that might turn off independents and moderates.  He's from the south and the battleground state of VA.

Cantor "looks" totally WASP to me. Tongue  Moving right along Cantor is the GOP Jew in the House at the moment, which is odd since there are two GOP Jews in the Senate. Of course there are no Pubbies in Congress who share my "religion."  Sad  There is one Dem in Congress who shares my "religion." Can anyone guess who that is?

Perhaps you don't quite fully grasp the situation so let me explain it to you. You (The Republicans) are going to want to hit Obama on experience. Fair enough. Put someone like Palin on the ticket and you're going to lose the ability to nail Obama on experience. So by all means, put someone like Palin or Jindal as VP. It'll make it that much easier for us to win.

I'm going to guess atheism because you put religion in quotes.

You are correct. It's Pete Stark, right next to the land of Sbane and Xahar. Tongue

Actually Sbane might actually be in Stark's district  now that I looked at the map. Oh the horror! His toxic presence is corrupting young minds.

You guess perspicaciously (that word is for Tik because it annoys her house plants), and for those of you in Rio Linda, "you guess good."  Smiley

I believe the race is between Obama and McCain.  That's the choice.

Palin has executive experience and would accumulate more during the time she is VP.

Obama's going to say, you can't attack my lack of experience because your VP doesn't have enough?  Frankly, I'd love it every time the word "experience" came out of Obama's mouth.

I'd love to take my chances with Palin.  She's sharp, great record on cleaning up corruption and a reform candidate, and would play extremely well among women voters.

But thanks anyway for explaining that to me.

Well, there are a handful of 'experience voters' who are non-partisan and non-racist, generally well informed and uncomfortable with Obama's lack of experience.  These people would become less fond of McCain if he chooses someone with as much experience as Obama as that would be a statement by McCain that experience is less important.  Moreso than Obama wasting speech time on the 'experience' issue is the fact that media pundits will point out the hypocrisy of McCain criticizing Obama's inexperience given his own VP selection.

That said, Palin is highly appealing for many reasons.  Her right-to-life credentials are unparalleled as far as I know.  Has there been another major politician who knew her child would have down syndrome and gave birth to that child regardless?  I didn't think so and that would mobilize right-to-life people.  She is also a former model and obviously at lest a bit telegenic because of that.

I don't think she'll be chosen or if she was chosen she'd be a great VP, but I agree with Agcatter that we shouldn't count her out yet.

Palin is a reformer, a conservative without seeming partisan, can at least claim to have more executive experience than Obama, has the possibility of siphoning off angry Clintonista feminist votes, and extremely photogenic.  She's not to be underestimated.

Her eldest son, Track, is in the Army and volunteered to serve in Iraq.  Between him and Jimmy McCain, I think the Republicans can use that to their advantage.
