Pretty much the right president at the right time.

Had he first been elected in the 1960's, I don't think he would have done as well.

Major Freedom Fighter.

His wartime record doesn't need to be discussed, because his accomplishments are such that everyone can recognize them.  During his Presidency, he sent in the National Guard to enforce Brown v. Board and signed the first Civil Rights legislation in nearly a century.

Eisenhower was the only Republican after Roosevelt for whom I would have voted.

Eisenhower was the only Republican after Roosevelt for whom I would have voted on his own merits.

Edited for my '72 and '84 GOP votes.

I just prefer Reagan on foreign policy, and the country was doing well at the time.

I don't hate him.  which says a lot considering he was a Republican (sort of), a president, and a military general.

One of that whole generation of complacent conservative leaders that were in power in so much of the West-write-large  during the '50's and early '60's that it isn't funny.

Good, but he had an easy period to run the nation.  Once the Korean War ended the country pretty much ran itself.

Underrated President, who has been getting closer to what is his due as time goes on, in part because of the array of his successors.

It's unfortunate that he didn't try harder to roll back some of the gigantic govt WWII and FDR had created before him.

It is my understanding that he was a supporter of those helpful programs.

Total FF. As Opebo said, he was a New Deal supporter and one of the few GOP presidents to preside over a peaceful time in our country's history. Also, I commend him on his expansion of our transit system.
