It doesn't have to be as extreme or materially altered as these possible futures, but it has to be somewhat more like these possibilities than what we have today.

I don't know, but we'll become a lot less materialistic, and permanently so, in about 20 or 30 years.

The men will be wearing stirrup pants and oversized sweaters and sport big bouffant bangs and coral jewelry with sky-blue eye shadow... and the women will be wearing just-above-the-knee length sequined, glossy skirts with power suit tops that have large shoulder pads....

and everybody will drive a K-Car.

An anglo-latin fusion state with english/spanish as both official languages. Think Miami or LA as examples of what the US will look like.

Yeah that would be pretty terrible. Even though I am probably a poster-child for a "fused" state, I really hate the "culture" of barrios and such.

and you don't even live in Miami. There's quite a few places here where you have to know Spanish to ask an employee at Wal-Mart something. The bright side is that Hispanic women are hot.

"In the distant future of 2008, our great land will have totally renounced it's Anglo-Saxon heritage.  Irish accents will be heard in every quarter, people will speak Italian and Yiddish on all the great streets, the Negro will outnumber the whites in the South (where, of course, all the Negroes will still live), and every corner will have a salacious vaudeville to entertain the degenerates with displays of women sans petticoats dancing by themselves!  Anarchists and other rabble-rousing malcontents shall meet openly, and labor unions imprison capitalism to their socialist demands!  The whole country shall be like Brooklyn!"

Not even remotely close to what I was saying. You were acting like I was predicting the native culture being overrun. The US going from an anglo-american state to a new anglo-latin state isn't anywhere near what you suggest.

Meh. I prefer asian or latin women so I'm fine on that front. However, my mom is white so don't lose hope.

We'll be so mixed that race won't be much of an issue
The country will be pro-life, more religious people yet less people adhering to religion, and gay marriage will be a non-issue, horse marriage will w/dog marriage already being legalized

I also think a hard-right economic turn

The thing to remember is that even with the demographic/cultural changes, American culture will still define itself as being 'american'. This will apply even when the US is largely mixed anglo-latin. Latins and lighter biracials are on the road to becoming 'white' and with interracial marriage rates constantly rising this will become an important factor. The national borders will probably be well to the south of now(most likely is a border with guatamala/belize but I wouldn't rule out a border with colombia). The large numbers of catholic immigrants combined with increasingly populist evangelicals will end the trend of having the US's more free market/pro-corporate tendencies compared to the rest of the first world so we reverse the post-1980 neoliberalism. Catholicism will also affect social policies since catholics in general tend towards less social utopianism/meddling than protestants(prohibition/the war on drugs both came from a protestant nation) so anti-vice laws become less important. Neo-puritanism's revivals end up becoming weaker and in the long run impotent. Lots of spanish loan words and accent influences on mainline english(strongest in the western third of the nation but prevelant everywhere). Most people still anglophone but know at least enough spanish to get by with some spanish-only(in the sense of spanish is the most important neighborhood) pockets(greater SoCal, PR, the projects). Cuisine is spicier. Tacos and burritos have permanently added themselves to the US fast food canon.

Can I get a look into your crystal ball?  You can accuratley predict what the country will be like in 200 years?  Did you also think Gitmo and internet taxes would be issues in 1787?

the same goes for a hard-right economic turn, but I would tend to say that is almost impossible, with population problems that will exist, increased poverty in America(fairly likely) and enviromental problems.

The same as today but with different gadgetry. Probably more socially progressive, since that's usually what happens, but really not a hell of a lot different. Also by 2070 everyone one will claim they "have a little Mexican in 'em" just like the Irish.

Trust me, by and large, they do. When I'm in a place with a large majority of white people I'm like Shaft.

I'd hardly call Brave New World a liberal dystopia under any definition of liberalism.  More like a corporatist dystopia.

I'm looking at the next ten years.

With Obama elected, I'm seeing, ultimately, a much more socially conservative county with an end to affirmative action, a marginalization of Black political involvement, probably internal security checkpoints, and an isolationist foreign policy.  This is a reaction to an Obama presidency.

If McCain is elected, a more socially liberal country with an increase in civil liberties, probably with an increase in integration and a more interactive foreign policy.

Who knows? The country has veered so far right, that an Obama presidency could be similiar to Reagan's presidency. Then again, Obama may be liberalism's last gasp, but I am not expecting that.
