If we were ever going to divvy up the United States then we should do it in a manner that more closely resembles the The Nine Nations concept, not a pure Northern/Southern United States divide, with the difference that the surrounding nations would divide the "Empty Quarter" between themselves, and allowing for the possibility of real native nations.

Not that a favor any separation at all, rather I would like to see Canada become part of the Union, and potentially a post-Castro Cuba... and not via coercion.  I think the Canadians will figure out, sooner or later, that it just doesn't make sense for them to maintain the current state of affairs.  We are practically one nation now anyway.

And my intent is not to be disrespectful.  It truly is not.  All jokes on both sides aside, at the end of the day, I value our brothers living north of the line on the map.  But the time is coming, if it hasn't already, when who wins the United States federal elections is going to matter more to Canadians than who they send to Ottawa... and you guys all know this, or else you wouldn't be here.  And its not going to be very long afterwords that most Canadians are going to come to terms with the notion that their best bet is going to be to have a say in those elections.

I think we need to quit getting hardons over what the "founders intended".  The founders also didn't intend the country to have 300,000,000 people, 50 states, free trade with nations that treat their people like scum and undercut our quality of life, or face terroristic threats from extremist Muslims from Africa and the Middle East.

So get over it.  We are what we are.  Hearkening back to some romanticized version of "what the founders intended" isn't gonna happen.

And while I do not agree completely with States, I think it is time people stopped being so arrogant when it comes to dismissing what the Founders wanted.  They lived in an era where despotism, dictatorship, and absolutism were very, very real... and so do we.  The difference is that we have somehow adopted this belief today that it can't happen here, where as they were quite aware of the fact that it could.
