I don't have kind words to say about most current politicians since they're usually in a range from bad to terrible. Freedom Fighters who earn truly respectful comments from me are far and few between.

Jesse Helms is dead.  My thoughts are with the Helms family.  Now is not the time to bicker over his legacy.
I agree with the sentiments in your post but I don't think Helms deserves any respect only his family does. I think most of the forum's LGBT group definatley has the right to show him no respect.
Also those of us who are nonchristian or nonwhite. We owe him zero respect whatsoever.
