I rarely use shuffle, and if I do, I shuffle within an artist or a genre. I'm too lazy to make playlists. I usually just pick an album and listen to it, then switch to a new one when that's done.

I always use shuffle...unless my mood calls for just listening to one artist over and over again. Im really indecisive when it comes to listening to music. Sometimes I skip over so many choices until I find the right song to listen too. Sucks.

Option 2.

My music library, for quite some period of time has been on constant shuffle. I saw the light as after a period of time, my fingertips felt quite sore. However, I must admit on some occasions I do embark on selecting on what song is to be played, most recently as a few hours ago when I changed from The Door's Light My Fire to Led Zeppelin's Communication Breakdown.

I only listen to songs on youtube, using headphones.  I hate it though compared to the good old days:

I usually select a new song as one ends since I switch around with different bands a lot.

I alternate between choosing 5-10 songs and listening on repeat and just choosing songs one by one.

I have very large playlists on my computer that are generally roughly based on genre, since sometimes different albums might be classified as different genres, but are pretty much the same (eg. jazz/swing).

Consequently, my three main playlists are entitled "All Jazzed Up and Nowhere to Go", "Friday and Saturday Night Playlist" and "Opera". They're all at least 8 hours long, and the jazz one is about 20 hours long. I open the playlist and hit shuffle.

I guess Option 2.  I usually pop in a CD and listen to that.  That is a play list, and I can use the shuffle feature if I want.
