Before you start laughing at me, notice what board this is in.

The Democrats control both state legislatures, the lower houses by wide margins and the upper houses by smaller ones. The state parties seem attuned to the state's interests (and they own the Black Belt). Why, then, do the Republicans win so many statewide races?

Shouldn't this be in the Gubernatorial/Statewide Elections board?

Alabama Democrats had a decent 2006.  Democrat Jim Folsom was elected Lt. Gov., Ron Sparks won a landslide reelection bid as State Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries and a Democrat won an AL Supreme Court spot. Democrats narrowly lost the AG spot to GOPer Troy King, who ran on a moral values platform. The wife of the Republican AG recently caught Mr. King in flagrante delicto with another man.

Most AL politicos expect Folsom to run for Gov. again in 2010 -- the scuttlebutt is that he's the early favorite.

I hope Harry stumbles upon this thread and gives his assessment of MS statewide politics.
